Karen Montenaro - January , 2012

Andover/Woodstock-10 AM

 Crescent Park Elementary-1PM

Karen is a solo performer, an award-winning choreographer, and the innovator of "mimedance," the fusion of two classical art forms. Karen studied ballet at the Cantarella School of Dance, the Ram Island Dance Center and on scholarship with the Joffrey Ballet School. She danced professionally with the Ohio Ballet and the Darmstadt Opera Ballet in Germany. Upon moving back to the Unites States, Karen also danced principal roles with the Portland Ballet Company. For more than a decade, Karen toured and taught internationally with mime master, Tony Montanaro. She currently tours the world with her one-woman show entitled "Tanzspiel." Ms. Montanaro is a teaching artist and offers residencies in movement, mime and dance in public and private schools throughout the United States. Over the past fifteen years, Karen Montanaro has performed in hundreds of schools both as a soloist and in partnership with master mime Tony Montanaro. Using material drawn from her full evening concerts, Karen entertains and educates students about the art forms of mime and dance and uses her phenomenal technique and control in both ballet and performance-mime to tell stories through movement. http://www.mimetheatre.com/

Piti Theater:
Elmer and the Elder Tree

Piti Theater: Elmer and the Elder Tree - April TBA, 2012 - Crescent Park Elementary
"Elmer and the Elder Tree" is the Piti Theatre Company's artful, arboreal fable which teaches children about nature while capturing their imaginations. This adult learned a thing or two about Elder trees, as well. Elmer (Jonathan Mirin) plays a citified everyman who flees to the forest and finds helpful bees, birds and a comforting Elder tree (all painted and animated through mime and dance by Godelieve Richard). The charming tale is conceived and performed by Mirin and Richard against a magical backdrop of gorgeous butterflies, gleaming mushrooms and colorful beetles (and wonderfully noisy, evocative music). The hour long show is interactive so the children, and their parents, are invited on stage to join in the action. A little boy in my audience was continually delighted by the rising sun and setting moon, which he announced whenever Richard pulled the lever to reverse the orbs. Clearly, the kids get it. And you'll leave with your very own seeds to plant when you get home. What could be nicer?" http://www.ptco.org/elmer.html
